Italy is a top destination for family holidays. Whether you are planning a beach holiday, a cultural trip or a holiday in the lakes region, you will find plenty to see and do, and there will always be something to keep the kids happy.
Here are five of the most important things to make sure you pack on any family holiday to Italy.
Apps for your smartphone
If you are planning to take your smartphone with you, there are a number of apps that you may want to download before you go. These can help you in multiple situations when you are in Italy. A few options include:
- HERE Maps from Nokia, which allows you to download a map of Italy to your smartphone that you can use it without an internet connection;
- the TripAdvisor app which can provide you with recommendations for attractions to see and restaurants to try out;
- Google Translate which will help you to converse with the locals.
- Plug adaptor
Your kids will probably want to take some gadgets with them, and you may pack your own tablet, phone and ebook reader. If so, you will want to pack a plug adaptor or two so you can charge up your gadgets wherever you are.
You can find one of these when you arrive, but it makes more sense to pack a couple so that you can use them immediately.
- Cash
When you go on family holidays in Italy, pack some euros with you that you can use when you arrive. Cards are accepted in many places, but in general cash is easier to use in Italy, and it is often preferred for smaller purchases.
A good option could be to take a pre-paid currency card along as well. This is safer than carrying around lots of cash, and you can then withdraw your euros from the ATM whenever you want to.
- Children’s medicines
Although you can get medicines in Italy once you arrive, you don’t want to be spending your holiday searching for them. In addition, you may not understand the instructions properly, so it can be easier to take the medicines you are familiar with.
At the very least, pack some paracetamol and ibuprofen for children because these are the most common medicines that you may need. Also pack any specific medicines that you and your family members need.
- Sun protection and hot-weather clothing
If you go to Italy in the summer, the sun is going to be fierce. Avoid sunburn and sun stroke by packing hats, glasses, light clothing and plenty of sunscreen.
Also don’t forget your beach gear if you are planning to spend any time on the beach, so pack your swimming costumes, goggles and snorkels.
- Pack properly and have a great time
These are five of the most important things to pack on your family holiday. However, don’t worry too much about forgetting anything because you can always buy anything you need when you arrive.
In addition to these five things, simply pack what you will need to stay comfortable without going overboard, and enjoy your time in Italy wherever you decide to go.
